Becoming Happy, Healthy, and Holy

Attachment July 10, 2008

The instructor of my “dance fusion” class yesterday (Renee) made such an interesting comment. She loves to dance, but she said yoga is the key to her success. It keeps her flexible and she said it has taught her to remain unattached to people, places, and things. I tend to think of yoga as “new age” but this is very inline with Christian thinking.

I think as people we do tend to worry a lot and get very attached to our loved ones and possessions. I think there is a level of attachment that is okay to God: love, caring, and wanting people in your life. However, when we allow a certain person, place, or possession to ruin our day, I think we are not pleasing God.

I’m thinking of taking a few of Renee’s yoga classes. It seems relaxing and I could use the lessons in flexibility as well as some stress relief.

Have y’all taken yoga? What did you think?

“Pursuit of Happiness”: Your Brain Wants to Be Transformed July 4, 2008

This article was very interesting. It basically claims that research shows that 60% of your happiness is set by the time you reach 16 years of age. If you didn’t have an ideal childhood, your happiness could have taken a hit. However, there is that 40% that we can control. It gives tips on how to do that, as well as a link to test your happiness.

Too Much Evidence June 1, 2008

Today I have been thinking about how people who are non-believers typically say they want hard evidence of God and/or Christ. In my opinion, there is TOO MUCH evidence to deny the existence of God.

I began going to church at age 3. “So what” you ask? Well, my mother and father never went to church, nor did they encourage me to go. A bus came to the trailer park where we lived and picked up people for the Baptist church and I declared that I wanted to go. I would get myself up, dress myself in Sunday dress, and ride the bus to church with a neighbor. Now in my opinion, God was leading me to do this. A typical 3 year old does not just up and one day decide to try to find religion!

“The Invisible Woman” May 20, 2008

I saw this on another blog, and it is truly thought-provoking. I hope it moves you and motivates you. You are not invisible!

Epheisians 2:10 says, “For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

180 Degrees of Change April 28, 2008

It is amazing how God can work on our hearts and change us seemingly overnight. Hubby and I are having the best relationship that we have ever had. We are being thoughtful with each other, being totally honest with one another, and really enjoying each other’s company again. A few months ago-heck, even weeks ago!- I would have thought this to be a pipe dream.

Another Season Of Life: Spring April 3, 2008

This spring, I truly feel renewed…starting fresh, just like a rose bush that must be cut back before it can bloom again in all its splendor.

While my life still has a few thorns, I can feel my head reaching toward the sun in an attempt to blossom and grow.

We can de-weed our lives just as we do our gardens. Do you have any weeds that need pulling? Any habits that need breaking? Any attitudes that need adjusting? Any relationships that could use some mending?

Why not blossom into who you were meant to be this spring? Little by little, you can bloom into a whole new you!

Do We Learn Our Lessons? March 31, 2008

It seems so easy to look at the life of another and know that they make the same mistakes in different ways many times over. It can get so frustrating when they are so unhappy, but continue to put themselves in the same situation over and over…never learning their lesson.

On the other hand, how hard it can be to look at ourselves with those same eyes, to see the lessons we need to learn.

I feel that I need to learn self- discipline, patience, and to be more light-hearted. I know that God is showing me this time and time again, yet I fail to learn my lesson. When will I begin to see that He does not want me to be unhappy, but wants me to learn to make better choices for myself?

Psalm 119:71 says, “It was good for me to be afflicted so that I might learn your decrees.”

Proverbs 17:9 reads, “He who covers over an offense promotes love, but whoever repeats the matter separates close friends.”

and Proverbs 26:11 says, “As a dog returns to its vomit, so a fool repeats his folly.”

Perhaps this time it is sinking in. Repeating my behavior will lead to a repeat of my failures. Change will bring me peace. Will I be perfect? No. But I will be learning and setting new patterns in my life for a bright future. 🙂
